Acer Nitro Blaze 11 is about to wreck the convenience of handheld gaming!
The Handheld Master Race is about to get a new addition that looks to blow everyone's minds. Likely not in a good way.
When I first saw the Acer Nitro Blaze 11, I thought it was a joke. I even wrote it downing my diary. "Haha. Look at this giant ass handheld." But nope, it's reality. Acer has created a handheld with an 11 inch screen. Eleven inches is an option for the iPad Pro and Air! Just to put that into perspective.
There was always the genre fighting, RPGs, JRPGs, shooters, etc. And, of course, consoles have always been tribal. I'm talking more about the hardware.
It felt like it was just PC a console for ever. Occasionally handheld would pop up with a Gamboy or PSP, but even that seemed to be a supplement to the consoles.
Now, it's PC, console, mobile, and handhelds. And it looks like handheld is really going for it this year. .
Besides Acer, several other companies showed off handhelds at CES 2025. It looks like handhelds are here to stay and with it will come the experimentation. And I'm looking forward to it.
As I get older, I've found less of my gaming time spent on PC or console. I just don't get the enjoyment out of it. It's mostly mobile or handheld for me. There's something about the intimacy of holding it up to your face as you play that you don't get with the other interfaces. There's a reason cozy games thrive on handhelds.
The Acer seems like it's going to be one of those tech anomalies that fuels a Youtube documentary. "Let's revisit the Acer Nitro Blaze 11". The size is just so overwhelming and almost steps into a the realm of something else. Something not handheld. Like I know you hold it in your hand but it's just so massive. It's nuts.
I could be wrong. This could go off like gangbusters. But I'm 6'3", 270 lbs, and I don't think I could hold this up for long gaming sessions. I'm going to need support. Maybe someone will make Doctor Octopus arms as accessories.
