Outside Noise: finders of underground sounds for your empty ears
Finding music that you like as you get older is so hard. Your tastes have stiffened, culture has changed, your brain has changed, how you consume music has changed, and most importantly music recommendations has changed. It used to be friends, maybe a show, or the weird guy at a record shop. That naturally fades as you age.
Then you had magazines and blogs. However, we've sped past the dominance of Pitchfork and on to TikTok reviewers and algorithms. And that's if you like conventional music like pop, country, or metal. Forget more experimental work!
For that you had Signal to Noise (now defunct) and there's still The Wire. Until recently I've not come across anything more modern.
Outside Noise is an underground music hunter for the modern day. I first came across them on TikTok and Instagram.
Short and to the point, their reviews entice you with heady yet visceral descriptions. And they seem more clued in than I could ever be at my age. If your a noisy, arty, experimental punk then this is the place for you.
And thanks to them I found a new favorite band. Chat Pile.
